Purpose of the E-group

  1. To foster communications between the core SAIAT team and the general membership regarding news, educational material, upcoming events and actions
  2. To allow all members the ability to post relevant articles, discover, and educate one another.
  3. To allow members to post their media watch replies, advocacy emails, and develop their own advocacy voice. (Discussion is asked to be kept to minimum on this list; we are contemplating a separate list for more of an open back & forth forum)
  4. To build up a positive, inclusive and encouraging environment of pro-Israel activity

Guidelines

Keeping in mind that the group is now over 100 members of differing backgrounds, organizational affiliations, levels of knowledge, and email/technology literacy, the following guidelines are offered to make the group productive and cohesive.

  1. The tone of the posts should be civil and clearly stated; there should not be any unsupported rants.  This applies to general discussions and sample media advocacy letters presented.
  2. Criticism, even “constructive criticism”, should be reserved for public personalities that put themselves in a position of scrutiny.

(For “local” public people from the Israel/Jewish scene please tread carefully and if in doubt send a copy to the moderator first at Saiat-owner@yahoogroups before posting. The compromise in the interest of accountability could be a response by the public person, concurrent with the post. Suggestions welcome here.)

  1. If someone feels the need to make what is believed to be a constructive comment about a member, please handle privately, in a phone call, direct e-mail, or e-mail the group moderator.  Saiat-owner@yahoogroups.com
  2. Sender’s must Identify themselves at the bottom of a post. This means Name Lastname and Town, especially if the email id is cryptic.
  3. Condense several related brief posts e.g. URL links, into a single message
  4. Have accurate and descriptive Subject lines
  5. Please keep readability high and strip-out excessive forward “>>” symbols
