About SAIAT
Israel despite her best efforts to find a peaceful compromise, is at war. A war forced upon her by adherents of the same hatreds which fueled the radical Islamist brutality of 9/11. While Israel aims to follow the highest moral "rules of engagement" by targeting terrorist combatants; the PA/PLO and its other terror proxies target innocent Israeli men, women and children - They promote and engage in what in all other regions would be considered "war crimes" by International Law.
Our core volunteers, from the south-area of Boston suburbia, came together to form SAIAT during the summer of 2001. It had been over a year since PM Barak's sweeping offers for peace at Camp David were rebuffed, and several months of the Palestinian mini war (Intifada II). We were all stupefied at the inane treatment of the conflict by the major media outlets which sought to portray a "moral equivalency" between Israeli and Palestinian leadership and their actions.
Our goals are to do our small part in supporting Israel, through:
1. Education - Providing the facts and background on Israel, its history, and the thematic enmity by its Arab neighbors for this lone Jewish democracy since its founding, with special attention to the peace process efforts and their results. "Consciousness raising" and focus are also sorely needed in our culture where many more pleasant distractions are as close as the cable remote.
2. Media Advocacy - Standing up for Israel and her people by tactfully but strongly with the facts at hand, condemning media bias and one-sided reporting.
3. Political Advocacy - Lobbying elected officials to stand firm and pass legislation in support of this struggling, but accomplished democracy; to support the just fight against terror everywhere; to battle supremecist Islamist propaganda and anti western hatred by promoting democracy's values, virtues and rewards.
4. Solidarity - Standing with our embattled brethren by visiting Israelis via missions and tours; Living in Israel for a period of time; "Twining" your congregation with a "sister" community in Israel; Setting up solidarity and Israel action boards in congregations and schools; Writing letters of support to victims of terror. And for those that have the means, supporting quite literally widows and orphans caused by Palestinian terror.
5. Partnering - No doubt these are large goals; there is no way for our "core team" of working parents and full time students to go this alone. There must be buy-in and ownership at schools and congregations for these actions to participate in at least some if not all. We hope to see the starting of groups/committees integrated with their own organizations. Conversely, there is also a wealth of resources and talent among existing and emerging professional Pro Israel organizations as well. We do not intend to reinvent the wheel. Another key goal of SAIAT's is to leverage these existing materials as well as encourage increased support and membership for the successful ones.
